OBS Studio 32.1 is now available for this popular cross-platform desktop screen recording app that is also popular with game live-streaming and other uses.

Notable with OBS Studio 32.1 is now having WebRTC Simulcast support. The obs-webrtc output now supports simulcasting for multiple quality levels to be sent over one track in WebRTC/Whip. More details on this WebRTC Simulcast support can be found via this pull request that landed the support.

OBS Studio 32.1 also introduces a new audio mixer, adds missing undo/redo actions for scene items, and adds partial support for canvases to obs-websocket.

    I remember this being in the works since almost 2 years ago. Nice to see it finally being included.

    It was an awaited feature, you can see at the start of the PR comments from developers employed at various companies working with streaming media (Twitch, Dolby, Cloudflare and more) excited about this PR

      I really thought that OBS + WebRTC would be a few months project. Ended up being way stickier than I expected.

      Most days I’m more excited for this space than Pion. It’s just more fun to make software for users vs businesses mostly doing AI maybe?

    If anyone is using/testing WebRTC I would love to hear how it is working for them :) I am hoping Simulcast makes a impact with smaller streamers/site operators.

    * Cheaper servers. More competition and I want to see people running their own servers.

    * Better video quality. Encoding from source is going to be better then transcoding.

    * No more bad servers. Send video to your audience and server isn't able to do modification/surveillance with E2E Encryption via WebRTC

    * Better Latency. No more time lost transcoding. I love low latency streaming where people are connected to community. Not just blasting one-way video.
