  • It only takes a week to learn enough git to get by, and only a month or two to become every-day use proficient. Especially if one is already familiar with perforce, or svn, or other VCS.

Yes, there is a transition, no it isn't really that hard.

Anyone who views lack of git experience as a gap in a CV is selecting for the wrong thing.

  • Apple is heavily involved in llvm, but so are a several other companies. Most prominently Google, which contributes a huge amount, and much of testing infrastructure. But also Sony and SiFive and others as well.

It’s all very corporate, but also widely distributed and widely owned.

  • The article tells of a woman snapping up school supplies. Doesn't say if she is a teacher or collecting for her kids or what. She probably doesn't need them immediately, but I figure she saves money by purchasing these things now and storing them until she actually does need them.

If you have the space to store consumables, then watching for them to appear on sale and stocking up is a good strategy.

  • And even more than that, just that some company they invest in will be a winner. It's OK for most to fail, as long as one of them does well. So they invest in lots of long-shots.

  • Carbon is still quite active.
